Rangers must tie 'exceptional' Glen Kamara to new contract, says Ferguson

Writing in his Daily Record column, Barry Ferguson has urged Rangers to tie down Glen Kamara to a new contract following his ‘exceptional’ performance against Celtic.

Kamara earned rave reviews from supporters for his classy display at Parkhead, as he helped Rangers to dominate the first Old Firm of 2020.

It wasn’t the first time he has stepped up in a big game, but former Rangers skipper Ferguson was blown away by the quality of his showing.

“How on earth was that guy only £50,000? he asked in his Daily Record column. “What would you get for that now? That is the deal of the Century.”

“Stick another two zeros on the end of that £50,000 and you’ll not be close to what he’s worth now. It shouldn’t matter what he’s worth though – Rangers need to get him tied down on a new contract asap.

“But what a performance, I thought he was exceptional against a very good Celtic midfield of Brown, McGregor and Ntcham. He was all over the place and when he got the ball he was composed.”

Ferguson urges Rangers to tie Glen Kamara to new contract – Verdict

It seems as though the former Gers skipper and Steven Gerrard are on the same wavelength, as the manager claimed earlier this month that a contract offer was imminent following Kamara’s strong start to the season [Glasgow Times].

The Finland international is already contracted until 2023, but a new deal would likely be as much about rewarding him with better terms as it would be adding additional years.

It’s hard to argue that tabling a bumper offer isn’t the right option, especially after his Old Firm display.

Kamara played the likes of Scott Brown and Callum McGregor off the park on their own turf and it really is remarkable that Rangers were able to snap him up from Dundee for the paltry fee of £50k less than two years ago.
