Rangers must stop FC Ufa’s Ivan Paurevic in Russia

FC Ufa pose a threat in the return leg and it’s ex-Huddersfield midfielder Ivan Paurevic who will be their key man against Rangers.

The midfielder will be the Russians key man and Rangers will need to impact his influence on the game early if they’re to progress.

A defensive midfielder with an eye for goal

The industrious Croat midfielder sank Progres with an important double in the second leg of the last round. Although not normally a goalscorer, the German born defensive midfielder offers goals alongside hard-work and a powerful shot.

He has been most prolific at FC Ufa where his style is central to the team’s play. He is combative and powerful but is also one of the Russian’s most creative talents.

It is at Ufa where the has been most prolific, scoring 11 goals in 104 appearances in two spells at the club. His total of 5 last season is his highest ever.

At 27, it’s fair to say Paurevic is now at the park of his powers and is a dangerous option for Ufa. Rangers can stifle the Russians by getting on top of the midfielder early and dominating that area of the pitch.

He has played in Germany and England

Paurevic has also plied in his trade in Germany and England, including a spell at Huddersfield Town where he struggled to break into a competitive team.

Ivan Paurevic began his career at Borussia Dortmund II in 2009. He then moved to Fortuna Dusseldorf in after he struggled to break into the first team 2012, spending two years there before starting his love affair with Ufa.

Great form earned him a move to England in 2016 but he was back in Russia by Christmas. He only made two appearances for the Terriers.

FC Ufa have put the Croatian at the heart of their team and if Rangers can nullify his threat, there’s a real chance they’ll qualify for the Europa League proper.
