On Wednesday evening, the Scottish Sun reported that St Johnstone are interested in signing Jason Holt on loan.
It’s suggested that the Saints are ‘desperate to add new faces’ after a disappointing start to the season and that Holt would add required experience to their midfield.
For the player, a switch to Perth would offer an escape from limbo with less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window.
He has served Rangers well since joining from Hearts in 2015, but hasn’t kicked a ball in Light Blue since the manager’s appointment.
He spent last season on loan at Fleetwood Town in EFL League One. Yet, despite Joey Barton suggesting he wanted to bring Holt back to Highbury, no second stint materialised [Herald].

It’s important that Holt does secure a move of some sort and while Saints may represent something of a step-down, at least he will still be playing in the Scottish top flight.
Should he secure a season-long loan, he would become a free agent at the end of the spell, as his Gers contract expires next summer [Transfermarkt].
How would this potential loan move be received at McDiarmid Park? So far, there appears to be some disagreement. Some think acquiring the Gers midfielder would strengthen the squad, while others believe he’s not the player or position they are looking for.
