Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas is training with Ayr United and is likely to seal a move to Somerset Park imminently, according to a leading journalist.

The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell revealed Barjonas, 22, is training with the Championship club and could secure a deal before the end of the day.

Former Scotland youth international Barjonas broke through into the Rangers side way back in May 2017 but has been unable to establish himself in the first team since.

A talented midfielder, Rangers signed Barjonas onto a new contract in late 2019 but with his current deal set to expire come the end of the season any Ayr move may spell the end of his Rangers career.

Despite impressing during the pre-season Veolia Tournament in France, Barjonas has yet to make a single first-team appearance under Steven Gerrard.

Barjonas has made nine appearances in total for Rangers, all them coming between 2017 and 2018 and all of them coming in the Scottish Premiership.

Whilst at Rangers Barjonas has enjoyed loan spells with Bury in EFL League Two as well as Raith Rovers in Scottish League One and brief spell at Partick Thistle last season.

Barjonas is at a pivotal point in his career and there’s little doubt that he needs to settle with a team and get consistent game time if he is to progress.

The midfielder has been capped up to U19 level with Scotland and will be hoping to get his career back on track should he sign the deal with the Honest Men.

In other news, one midfielder who is set to join Rangers in the summer has found himself out of the squad at his current club.
