Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo got his international career off to a flyer as he opened the scoring for Nigeria and stole the headlines in their 2-2 draw with Ukraine.

The talented midfielder positioned himself tidily in the Ukrainian box as he received a cross from £40m man Alex Iwobi in only the third minute.

And the marquee Ibrox summer signing didn’t look out of place alongside the likes of Iwobi as he staked a claim for a regular spot on his debut.

Joe Aribo announcing himself on the international stage like this will do the lanky midfield dynamo’s reputation no harm at all.

A tricky, hard-working, box-to-box midfielder with an eye for goal, Aribo has certainly shown flashes of why Steven Gerrard was so determined to get him to Ibrox.

Since joining Rangers, the midfielder has already scored four goals and – the Old Firm match apart – has looked the real deal since signing on at the club.

And to think, the player’s former manager at Charlton, Lee Bowyer, said that Aribo had made a huge mistake joining Rangers [Daily Record].

I wonder if Aribo thinks playing in front of 50,000 people, playing in Europe and playing for his national side is a mistake?
