Rangers fringe star Jason Holt is set to be offered an escape route from Ibrox with the Scottish Sun claiming Tommy Wright’s St. Johnstone are interested.

The midfielder signed for Rangers in 2015 and was a part of the Mark Warburton side which earned promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

But after four years at Ibrox, Holt has been deemed surplus to requirements, with a move to the Scottish Premiership side a positive outcome for all parties.

The report claims that the Perthshire saints want the player on loan for the season. With Holt’s contract up at the end of this season, it would surely signal the end of the 26-year-old’s Rangers career.

Any move could also explain why Holt was excluded from the Rangers development side’s 2-0 win over former side Fleetwood Town.

At Holt’s age, he still has plenty to offer a side elsewhere and should the midfielder leave, he’ll go with the best wishes of Rangers fans.

The Musselburgh born midfielder was signed when his Hearts contract expired at Tynecastle and he’d go on to play 116 games for the club, scoring 15 goals.

Holt would then spend last season on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he made 36 appearances for the Joey Barton led League One side.
