Rangers’ 6-1 victory over Motherwell is Steven Gerrard’s largest away domestic win in charge of Rangers.
The comprehensive victory came at a time in which a positive result was vital to increase the lead at the top of the table.
After the match, Gerrard spoke about just how well his team played.
“Every single one of them stood up today and were fantastic,” said Gerrard [Rangers]
“We could have had more goals; it was a really empathic victory.”
Gerrard also talked about how well James Tavernier played, especially on his birthday, scoring a wonderful volley. Gerrard proclaimed “it was his strongest performance of the season.”
Rangers star Arfield impresses v Motherwell
The match also represented Arfields first league start of the season and his movement and grit shone through.
“Arfield was really safe in his passing and kept the ball well for us” Gerrard said about the Canadian midfielder.
“Considering he hasn’t played an awful lot, there was nothing wrong with his performance.”
Starting Arfield and Fashion Sakala Jnr gave the side that little something different that the team have been lacking the previous few weeks.
The biggest takeaway from the managers reaction was how happy he was, adding “the pleasing thing for me is we look like us”.
In a season which hasn’t started as strongly as everyone thought it would – despite the side sitting top of the table – the performances haven’t been up to the standard of last season.
Rangers’ victory against Motherwell might just be the catalyst for a winning run heading into an important series of matches.
Some may also find it a surprise that this is the highest away domestic victory for Rangers under Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard was delighted with his team’s performance in the victory over Motherwell but singled one under-fire Gers star out for special praise.
