Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been addressing questions on the mounting pressure building behind Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Lennon came out fighting in the press this week in an outburst attacking the suggestion his job is on the line with his toiling Celtic side going three games without a win.

Rangers fans felt that was a sign the Celtic boss was creaking a little, but Gerrard was more sympathetic to his Old Firm counterpart.

Gerrard himself has been the subject of much pressure in the press and from his own fans when things haven’t gone right at Rangers and he opened up on his view on the situation with Lennon.

“I don’t think you have to be a rocket scientist to work it out that whoever is in the best form seems to get a bit more peace in terms of scrutiny in the media and the questions that are fired at you,” explained Gerrard [Rangers].

“You get a couple of indifferent results and that certainly changes very quickly and the heat comes in a different direction. That’s the way it is.

“That’s what myself and Neil, or myself and Brendan (Rodgers) prior to Neil, have to live with. That’s the job we are in. That’s never going to change.

“I’m sure that it has been the same for many years and it will be in the future.

“I accept that. Obviously the team are doing well, we need to keep continuing that. But it is what it is.”

Gerrard’s comments come with Lennon under mounting pressure not just within the media but from his own support.

The Celtic boss will now take his charges to France for a tough tie with Lille before facing Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

It’s another big week for Rangers and Celtic but if the Gers are to keep building on the solid foundations of this season, they are best served focusing on what happens within Ibrox.
