WIth Philippe Clement firmly in the hunt to be the next Rangers manager, Adi Hutter – the man who replaced him at AS Monaco – has the French side top of Ligue 1.

According to reports in Belgium, Rangers have already held initial talks with former Club Brugge boss Philippe Clement about taking over from Michael Beale at Ibrox.

Having won three back-to-back Belgian Pro League titles with firstly Genk and then Brugge, Philippe Clement was offered the gig at AS Monaco last season.

After only one year in France the manager was relieved of his duties in the summer and in came German coach Adi Hutter.

And it’s been quite the start to Hutter’s time in charge of AS Monaco with the manager sitting top of the Ligue 1 table after eight games.

AS Monaco replacement of Rangers-linked Philippe Clement tops Ligue 1

Beating Stade de Reims 3-1 over the weekend, the result means Monaco have kicked off the season with five wins and two draws from eight matches.

They sit top of the division with 17 points, one more than second place OGC Nice, and their fans will have started dreaming of a first title since 2017.

As for Philippe Clement, the Belgian coach certainly represents one of the more interesting options for the Rangers manager’s role given his history of success on the continent.

Rangers need winning football to return to Ibrox and for many Philippe Clement is the clear frontrunner to succeed Michael Beale in Glasgow.

Not that Rangers could have it all their own way in any negotiations; there is reportedly also interest in the manager from Saudi Arabia.

Philippe Clement also isn’t the only name being mentioned alongside the Rangers job in the media either, with the Belgian one of several touted for the gig.

More recently, the likes of Yokohama F Marinos manager Kevin Muscat and ex-Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner have been linked in the media.
