Andrew Cavenagh has issued a wholesale update on what the hierarchy’s plans are to take Rangers to the next level.

The Gers chairman confirmed that he and his consortium will launch a £16m share issue to raise funds for the development of the club.

Danny Rohl is expected to be backed in the summer transfer window as Cavenagh and the board want the Ibrox outfit to become Scotland’s best team again.

Rangers make u-turn on decision to hire sporting director

Cavenagh addressed the fans via the club’s official website courtesy of a lengthy statement on Wednesday.

In it, he confirmed that there are no plans to bring in a sporting director as he believes that the current structure is working well.

Kevin Thelwell joined as the sporting director back in July 2025 and was expected to usher in the new era at Ibrox.

He was among the first high-profile appointments made by the new owners, but things quickly turned sour, and he was sacked in November.

At the time, it appeared that a replacement could be hired, but a u-turn has been made on that decision.

Cavenagh wants a smaller executive team and more accountability for each person as he wants the team to “get its fingernails dirty”.

What roles do Jim Gillespie and Fraser Thornton serve at Ibrox?

Jim Gillespie recently joined as the CEO, and his role at Ibrox is to ensure that the operations behind the scenes are running smoothly.

He is also in charge of supporting footballing operations to safeguard the club’s present and future and do whatever he can to set a foundation for long-term success.

Gillespie has served as the Vice Chairman of St Mirren, where he was lauded for his leadership and shrewd decision-making.

Thornton was the acting CEO before Gillespie’s arrival, but is now the Executive Director.

He plays a more hands-on role as he has a day-to-day presence at the club, leading key stakeholder relationships and working closely with the CEO.

Thornton has been a chartered accountant previously and his financial nous is one of the reasons why he is held in such high regard at Rangers.
