Rangers have made an official announcement on Thelo Aasgaard following his first season at Ibrox.

The Light Blues signed the Norway international from Luton Town for a £3.5m fee.

He was roped in to be a first-team regular, but that has not been the case, especially since Danny Rohl brought in his own players in January.

Rangers announce Thelo Aasgaard will be at the World Cup

Rangers announced on Thursday that Thelo Aasgaard has been called up to the Norway squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Despite being a bit-part player for the Light Blues this past season, the 24-year-old is liked by his head coach Stale Solbakken.

Even though he has made just six senior appearances for Norway, the fact that he scored five goals in those matches has made him a default inclusion.

Which area should Rangers prioritise on strengthening this summer? 🤔

Andrew Cavenagh has made some bold promises!

However, his performances for Rangers have been far from as impressive as they have been for his national team.

In 48 games in all competitions, he has managed to find the back of the net on just eight occasions, providing five assists on the way.

It remains to be seen if he is a regular for the Norwegian side in North America, but there is a possibility that he will be.

He may have been used as a substitute on more occasions than he’s been given a start, but Solbakken will want to give him more minutes as he’s got a goal in him.

Does Aasgaard have a future at Ibrox?

Aasgaard has shown flashes of his quality at Rangers, but has struggled with his consistency in his debut season.

Under both Martin and Rohl, he has constantly been in and out of the squad, with both managers struggling to get the best out of him.

He has also struggled with his fitness and shown that he has a competitive streak, given his red card against Celtic.

Having joined for close to £3m, the Norway international has done very little to prove his worth to the fans or anyone at the club.

If Rangers get a decent offer for him this summer, they surely will be inclined to sell him.

Rohl is being backed by the hierarchy, and they would want to give him the players that best suit his system.
