As you may have heard, Rangers are interested in signing Matija Frigan from HNK Rijeka this summer.

It was Football Insider who claimed that Michael Beale is keen on bringing the Croatian Under-21 international to Ibrox as he attempts to find a replacement for Alfredo Morelos, and has already made a move.

Some Rangers fans may not know much about Frigan – if that is the case, there is still reason to be excited based on who he has been compared to.

Rangers could sign the next Ciro Immobile in Matija Frigan

Well – according to Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig – the Croatian wonderkid is very similar to Ciro Immobile, who has earned a reputation as one of the best goalscorers in Europe across the last decade.

The Italy international has impressively scored 318 goals in 548 appearances across his career, and even won the European Golden Shoe in 2019/20 after netting 39 goals in just 44 games.

Football Talent Scout state that Frigan is similar to Immobile due to his “pace, finishing, instinct, movement, heading and ambidexterity” up top.

The 20-year-old may have a long way to go until he matches the Italian’s accomplishments in football, although his career has already gotten off to a flying start.

Frigan has scored 15 goals in 30 appearances for HNK Rijeka this season, showing real maturity to lead the line despite his lack of experience – a strike rate of one every two games for such a young player is superb.

The HNK Rijeka No.24 also has three assists to his name, and ended the season in brilliant form with six goals in his final nine outings in the SuperSport HNL, Croatia’s top-flight.

Rangers fans have already taken one Croatian striker to their heart in Nikica Jelavić.

Now – if Frigan arrives in Glasgow – it may soon be time to make room for another prolific goalscorer from that part of the globe.
