After the Livingston match, Rangers defence was berated. The only defender on the pitch who was singled out for special praise was a Livingston one. Craig Halkett.
But it could’ve easily been so different for the 23-year-old centre half. The youngster came through the academy at Auchenhowie but never quite made the grade. He made no appearances and joined Livi in 2016.
But reports suggest the youngster caught Gerrard’s eye after the Livingston game and now Rangers are interested. Is the gaffer worried about our options at centre back long-term?
Rangers likely to move for a CB
Whether Craig Halkett or someone else, Rangers will move for another centre back for next season. Joe Worrall will no doubt go back to Nottingham Forest. And he’ll go back a much better player.
He is, to put it quite simply, out of our price range.
Gareth McAuley, who’s yet to play a game for the club, is 38 years old. His deal expires at the end of the season. He isn’t a long-term option.
Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson will be Rangers only recognised centre backs.
So that means Rangers will have their eye on another centre back. Craig Halkett could be the solution. He is homegrown at the club, he looks very mature at the back and he would come along for free. Halkett’s contract also expires at the end of the season.
Do you think the young Scot would make a good signing for Rangers?
And if he’s that good, why did we let him go in the first place?
