Highly-rated Rangers loanee Robby McCrorie is unlikely to play again this season due to a niggle, according to a Sports Mole report.

McCrorie headed to the Tony Macaroni Arena in July for his fifth loan stint away from Ibrox.

He’s progressed up through the leagues, starting off with Berwick Rangers in the fourth tier, before turning out in the Championship for Morton and Queen of the South.

In January 2020, the Scotland youth international made the jump to the Premiership by joining Livi, but his first stint there was curtailed by the onset of the pandemic.

He’s had a full crack at it in West Lothian this season, though, and has had mixed fortunes, dropping in and out of the side following a short stint as undisputed no.1 at the beginning of the campaign.

The 23-year-old has made 18 appearances in all competitions and has kept just two clean sheets.

The Gers are in town on Wednesday evening and McCrorie would have been ineligible for the fixture anyway due to the terms of his loan agreement.

However, he is currently out of action with a niggle which caused him to miss a defeat to Aberdeen last week and Sports Mole reports that he’s unlikely to be fit enough to face St Johnstone in Livi’s final Premiership fixture on Saturday afternoon.

It looks as though McCrorie’s season is over and he’ll soon formally return to Ibrox.

He’ll likely have mixed emotions about his season, but after breezing through life in the lower tiers, perhaps a tough first full campaign in the top flight was to be expected and he’ll be better off for the experience.

It’s likely that the promising keeper will head out for another loan spell next season, with a recent contract decision on an Ibrox fringe player appearing to drop a hint on his future.
