Rangers loanee Jordan Jones, who insists the door remains open for him at Ibrox, has received a big boost in his bid to impress Steven Gerrard [Shields Gazette].
Jones started well at adopted club Sunderland in EFL League One after completing a six-month loan switch in January, netting two stunning goals and notching three assists in his first nine appearances.

However, an injury picked up in the build-up to the EFL Trophy final has seen him miss the Black Cats’ last four matches.
He restarted light training last week, though, and now manager, Lee Johnson, thinks he will be able to return to the fold for a home clash against Oxford United on Friday evening.
“Hopefully, Jordan Jones comes back for next weekend’s games if he has a good week of training,” he said [Shields Gazette].
“That’s another very good option for us whether it be in the starting XI or on the bench.”

Jones has recently been linked with a permanent move away from Ibrox, with a number of English Championship sides reportedly chasing his signature [TEAMtalk].
Yet, he is contracted to Rangers until 2023 and shortly after he departed for the Stadium of Light, he revealed that Gerrard had told him he still had a chance to salvage his Ibrox career [Daily Record].
If he returns to action at the weekend, he would have plenty of time to build on his initial good work at Sunderland, with ten matches remaining in the regular season and further playoffs also a possibility, should they miss out on automatic promotion.
Jones has made 19 appearances for Rangers since signing from Kilmarnock in 2019, scoring one goal and registering two assists.
Four Rangers loanees were involved in a historic upset on Saturday but one is likely to soon be hit with a big blow from the SFA.
