Rangers loanee Josh McPake was thrown straight in for Harrogate Town after signing for the English League Two side as they ended up with 10 men and fell to a 2-1 defeat.

The Sulphurites has gone 1-0 up in the match courtesy of an early Jack Muldoon strike and looked to be heading for a morale boosting win against high-flying Cambridge United before Joe Ironside equalised with 20 minutes to go.

Things would go from bad to worse for Harrogate as Lloyd Kerry would be sent off seven minutes later with Town up against it from that point.

Wes Hoolahan would put Cambridge in front just minutes later before McPake was subbed off in the 82nd minute.

The result leaves Harrogate Town in 17th in League Two and the young Ger will certainly enjoy better times with the club as they look to have an impact on the division this season.

Rangers youngster Josh McPake’s move to Harrogate Town was only announced yesterday as the player looks to earn minutes playing men’s football.

The Gers attacker, 19, has had an up and down few seasons since breaking into the Gers side and will be looking to make an impression in England.

McPake – who has also had loan spells at Dundee and Greenock Morton – will be hoping to show why he is amongst the highest rated players in the Gers Academy in his first stint down south.

McPake has also represented Scotland at youth level and has so far made six appearances for the Under 19s side.

Speaking of Rangers Academy players, news broke this week that the Gers are once again driving a proposal to introduce Colt teams to the lower leagues of Scottish football.
