Rangers loanee Ross McCrorie and the rest of the Portsmouth squad have been tested, with three teammates coming back positive for COVID-19, according to an official club statement [Portsmouthfc.co.uk].

McCrorie left the Gers in the summer for a season-long stint with the English League One side, who are managed by Kenny Jackett.

As an EFL club, they are currently out of action due to measures taken by the English football authorities amid the global health crisis, with all matches suspended until 30th April.

However, it emerged on Saturday morning that despite those preventative measures, three Pompey players have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in self-isolation.

Those players are named as James Bolton, Andy Cannon and Sean Raggett, although the club’s chief executive, Mark Caitlin, issued an encouraging update on their conditions.

“I received the news last night and immediately spoke to Kenny and head physio Bobby Bacic,” he told Portsmouthfc.co.uk. “Kenny and I then spoke to all three players.”

“Football is not immune from this virus and I can assure you that it only really hits home when those that you know contract it.

“All three players were in good spirits and perfectly calm – showing mild or no symptoms – and are looking forward to overcoming it as quickly as possible.”

Elsewhere in the statement, it’s asserted that all first-team players and staff underwent tests earlier in the week, with around half of those who took the tests still awaiting their results.

At this stage, it’s not known if Scotland U21 skipper, McCrorie, has been cleared or is still waiting to hear back.

Hopefully, there’ll be a positive update from Pompey in the coming days.
