Rangers loanee Jake Hastie has been an unused substitute for each of Motherwell’s last five matches after failing to impress new manager Graham Alexander.

Hastie has had a difficult season away from Ibrox after heading back to boyhood club Well in July in search of playing time.

Under old manager Stephen Robinson, his opportunities were limited.

He started the first two matches of the Premiership season before falling out of favour and spending most of his time on the bench.

Robinson criticised the 22-year-old’s fitness levels [Not The Old Firm] before suggesting in December that he had upped his efforts and was deserving of more playing time.

Yet, the Northern Irishman resigned soon after making those comments and uncertainty returned for Hastie.

The Gers loanee earned a start under caretaker boss Keith Lapsley and new manager Graham Alexander retained him in the XI for his first game in charge against St Mirren in early January.

However, since then, he has only played seven minutes of football and has been left on the bench for each of the Steelmen’s last five league fixtures.

He wasn’t even called upon to provide a spark when his team were 3-0 down to Hamilton at half-time at Fir Park on Saturday.

It’s a disappointing situation for Hastie, who clearly hasn’t done enough to impress Alexander since his appointment.

The former Scotland youth international is contracted to Rangers until 2023, so he has the benefit of relative security at Ibrox.

However, his career appears to be stalling right now and given his lack of game time at Motherwell, his chances of breaking into Steven Gerrard’s plans for next season currently look slim.

Another Rangers loanee is having a much better time with his adopted side, though, and backed up a midweek goal with a key assist on Sunday.
