Rangers loanee Jordan Jones has stated that he is set for summer talks with Steven Gerrard regarding his future at the club [Daily Record].

The 26-year-old joined Sunderland on loan during the January transfer window, after falling down the pecking order at Ibrox.

He made four appearances during the opening months of the campaign, scoring a fine solo goal in a Premiership win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

However, he picked up a seven-match SFA ban in November for breaching Covid regulations and didn’t turn out again for the first team prior to his temporary move to the Stadium of Light.

Jones is contracted until 2023, though, and he says he’s been told that his time at Ibrox isn’t necessarily over.

“The manager called me and wished me all the best,” he said [Daily Record]. “He told me to go down and to do well and more importantly to enjoy my football again.”

“I really appreciated that and he told me to go and do the best I can and then we can look at things again in the summer.

“The manager has told me the door isn’t closed on me at Rangers. I just need to focus on Sunderland and I watch from afar and hope Rangers can also be successful come the end of the season.”

Since joining the Black Cats, Jones has made four appearances but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

There are plenty of fixtures remaining in the season, though, and if he does manage to start producing for his adopted side as they bid for promotion, it could convince Gerrard to give him one last shot at making a success of his Rangers career.

Jones is one of several Gers wingers currently out on loan and one missed out on the chance to play at Wembley after featuring in a semi-final defeat to lower-league opposition.
