It hasn’t exactly all gone to plan for Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie since he moved on a season-long loan to League One Portsmouth.

The highly-rated Ibrox youngster was sent off on his debut, has struggled to get a run in the side and is part of an underperforming team which find themselves 16th in the English third tier.

Tipped for automatic promotion at the start of the season, Portsmouth find themselves 11 points off the top after only 12 matches.

But after grinding out a 1-0 win at home to high-flying Lincoln, McCrorie believes it can act as a catalyst to spring the former Premier League club back to the Championship.

“We’re 12 games into the season now and it just hasn’t clicked but I am sure it will come,” said McCrorie [Portsmouth News].

“We have got the quality there. There are quality players within our team and if you look at the squad on paper, we should be clicking.

“I’m sure we will get there. You see the signings we brought in before the season and look at the squad – there is a lot of competition within the team.

“That is only a good thing. It’s only the start of the season and there is a long way to go.

“Come the end of the season, we will see where we are.’

It’s an optimistic approach and shows the maturity of the 21-year-old, who is coincidentally the Scotland U21 captain.

The youngster has been heralded from within Rangers as one of the club’s brightest talents and the challenges that he has faced this season at Portsmouth are about developing him as a player and person.

Hopefully, last night’s victory over Lincoln can act as a turning point for Ross and Portsmouth this season.
