Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton’s Hibernian woes continued on Saturday afternoon, as he was left out of the squad for their Premiership clash against Aberdeen.

The winger is yet to feature under new manager, Jack Ross, now failing to make the matchday eighteen for any of his first five league games in charge.

Last weekend, the Hibees boss suggested that Middleton would get a chance at some stage if he continued to work hard in training [Not The Old Firm].

Yet, despite the first team falling to a 2-1 defeat at Ross County in midweek and the teenager netting an impressive brace in a 6-0 Reserves win over St Mirren, he was overlooked once again.

Should Gerrard recall Middleton in January?

It’s now less than a month until the winter transfer window, and while Middleton is due to stay at Easter Road until the end of the campaign, Rangers should certainly consider recalling him should this situation persist.

The Gers are reasonably well-stocked in wide areas and there’s little chance of the teenager playing regularly at Ibrox if he returns.

Yet, some fans are angry at how the club’s asset is being treated in Leith and there isn’t much to be gained by him turning out for their second string.

This is a player who racked up 25 appearances for the Gers first-team before the winter break last season, impressing in the Europa League as well as domestically.

The thinking behind the loan move was to get Middleton regular senior playing time to work on some of the unrefined aspects of his game. He simply hasn’t been getting that since Paul Heckingbottom’s departure and as a result, it may soon come time to pull the plug on this one.
