Rangers loanee Jordan Rossiter has been struck down yet again, with the 22-year-old picking up a serious knee injury whilst in action for Fleetwood Town.

Rossiter limped off 76 minutes into a 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers on Saturday afternoon and it seems as though he won’t be returning for some time.

As confirmed by FleetwoodTown.co.uk, he has been ruled out for a ‘prolonged period’.

It comes just as it looked as though Rossiter had finally left his serious injury woes behind. The midfielder has only accumulated ten league appearances for the Gers since joining in 2016 mainly due to chronic calf issues [Transfermarkt].

However, after finally working his way back to fitness, he enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bury over the second half of last season and had been kicking on a Fleetwood.

The midfielder has racked up over 1000 minutes for the Trawlermen this season, becoming a linchpin for the EFL League One outfit.

Yet, it now looks as though his campaign could be over before Christmas.

“It’s tough for Jordan and it looks like he could be out for the remainder of the season,” manager Joey Barton told FleetwoodTown.co.uk.

“He’s going to be out for a prolonged period and it’s a big blow for the team and for our group. Mentally, he’s in a great place because he’s got a lot of people around him that care about him, and we’ll do everything to get him back where he belongs, which is back playing good football for us.

“I think if you stopped the season now and asked the fans who their player of the year has been, you have to put Jordan in that space because he’s been that effective for us.”

Rossiter is into the final year of the Rangers contract he signed in 2016 [Transfermarkt] and is set to become a free agent in the summer.
