Despite arriving with next to no competitive football in the previous 18 months, it didn’t take him long to get going, scoring in his second outing for his adopted side at AFC Wimbledon.

In total, before the suspension of EFL fixtures amid the global health crisis, he’d netted seven times and registered one assist in ten appearances for the League One outfit.

One of his best strikes to date came in a 2-2 draw against Bolton earlier this month. The winger was involved throughout the build-up, before tucking away a fine half-volley from around 12 yards after being picked out by a cross from the left.

It’s his second consecutive Goal of the Month award.

Public safety is the priority right now, but Murphy is likely to be disappointed to have his remarkable streak ended for reasons beyond his control.

Given that his loan stint only runs until the end of the season, he may not have a chance to represent Burton again, should the campaign be cut short.

The Scotland international is contracted at Rangers until 2021, but Steven Gerrard deemed him surplus to requirements in January and it remains to be seen whether or not he’s done enough to be brought back into the fold for next season.
