Rotherham United defender Michael Ihiekwe has spoken to the Millers.co.uk about new arrival Jake Hastie.

The 20-year-old joined the EFL League One outfit on loan from Rangers on Deadline Day.

It was a move out borne out of a desire to get more playing time than would have been available to him at Ibrox, and it seems he’s made a strong early impression.

Rangers loanee Jake Hastie tipped to thrive at Rotherham

“Jake is frighteningly quick as well,” Ihiekwe told Millers.co.uk, after praising fellow new arrival Chiedozie Ogbene. “He’s only trained with us a couple of times so far, but you can see that in training and he certainly has a few tricks in his locker.”

“We’ve now got two direct wingers, so I’m sure they’ll make an impact for us.”

Rangers fans didn’t get to see much of the speedster in Light Blue following his switch from Motherwell. 69 minutes is all he managed across two appearances [Transfermarkt] before Gerrard and co clearly thought he was better off elsewhere for the time being.

Hastie will be hoping to build up experience and show over the course of this season, that he is, in fact, good enough for a proper crack at Ibrox.

His signing certainly went down well with the English club’s fans and he could make his debut on Saturday afternoon.

Rotherham travel to Doncaster Rovers in the league for what is a local derby. If thrown into the action by manager Paul Warne, it would be an excellent opportunity to endear himself further to the supporters of his newly adopted side.
