Rangers loanee Jake Hastie looks unlikely to be recalled in January, after hitting a rough patch with Rotherham United.

The 20-year-old was showered with praise by fans of the EFL League One outfit at the start of the season when he announced his arrival in Yorkshire with three goals in his first three appearances.

Millers manager Paul Warne branded the winger a ‘menace’ to opposition defenders [Evening Express], before suggesting that if his good form continued, he could be recalled by the Gers in the winter window [BBC Radio Sheffield].

However, given the number of other wingers at Ibrox and a subsequent drop in his form, that looks increasingly unlikely.

Stevie G currently has Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker and Jamie Murphy to choose from in wide areas, so it would take consistently scintillating form or a spate of injuries for him to consider bringing Hastie back.

Unfortunately, although he’s played regularly up until recently with Rotherham, he hasn’t scored in over two months, while an assist in the FA Cup against Maidenhead United a fortnight ago was his first of the season [Transfermarkt].

Given that he’s made 11 appearances, it’s clear that his end product is still in need of refinement.

He’s learning and getting minutes south of the border and for now, that’s the best place for him. There would be no sense in bringing him back to Glasgow to play at best what would be a bit-part role.

After an indifferent run, Rotherham have won their last two matches and sit sixth in the league with their next fixture against MK Dons on Saturday. The electric Hastie will be targeting an inclusion in the starting XI and a return to the goals.
