Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton is doubtful for St Johnstone’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Celtic on Saturday afternoon after limping out of a youth international clash with a hamstring injury.
Middleton, who rejoined the Saints at the start of the current campaign after a successful spell at McDiarmid Park last season, led the line for Scotland U21s against Belgium at Tannadice on Tuesday night.

He turned out alongside fellow Rangers starlets Lewis Mayo, Ben Williamson and Stephen Kelly but was forced off after an hour and replaced by former Gers youngster Dapo Mebude.
The 21-year-old was in visible discomfort and although the extent of the injury hasn’t yet been confirmed, it looks likely that he’ll miss Saturday’s match.
“Glenn thinks he has pulled his hamstring,” said Scotland boss Scot Gemmill after the game [The Courier].
Middleton scored a brilliant free-kick for the Saints at Hampden last season in a Scottish Cup semi-final and given that he’s featured in almost every game for the Perth club so far this campaign, it’d be a big blow to Callum Davidson if he were to miss out against Celtic.

A number of Rangers loanees have dealt blows to the Hoops in the recent past and Middleton was no doubt hoping to add his name to the list.
However, the versatile speedster may be forced to watch on from the stands as his adopted side try to set up a final against either the Gers or Hibs.
UPDATE: Davidson has since all but ruled Middleton out of the Celtic clash, saying: “Glenn is struggling. I was cursing at the television when I saw him limp off. It’s a slight hamstring injury. He’s been in getting assessed today and hopefully it’s not as bad as first feared, but I think Saturday will come too soon for him, which, again, is a blow” [Scottish Herald].
Meanwhile, a Rangers star has hilariously roasted one of his teammates on social media.
