The Shropshire Star report an unsavoury incident involving Greg Docherty, on Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers loanee, had been playing for Shrewsbury Town away at Bristol Rovers in an EFL League One fixture.

Usually one of the first names on the team sheet, this time he started on the bench.

He was introduced into the action in the 52nd minute, but unfortunately didn’t see out the remainder of the game.

The 22-year-old was struck in the face by the ball not long after being introduced.

“Doch had some bleeding in his eye, he wanted to carry on. But as it went on, he started to struggle with his vision”, Shrews manager, Sam Ricketts, said, as quoted by the Shropshire Star.

“Doch’s left early to go to hospital. I’m a bit disappointed with how the vehicle was treated taking him with objects thrown when they were trying to leave the ground and get to the hospital.”

“That’s disappointing. Hopefully he’ll be ok”, Ricketts concluded.

Docherty was replaced after 78 minutes, as his team went on to draw 1-1.

More importantly, though, as his manager said, hopefully it isn’t too serious and the 22-year-old makes a speedy recovery.
