Rangers loanee Alnwick loving no.1 spot with Blackpool

Rangers loanee Jak Alnwick has spoken the Blackpool Gazette about life on loan with Blackpool F.C.

The 26-year-old stopper was deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox in the summer, with Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham both ahead of him in the pecking order and Academy graduate Robby McCrorie also in the picture.

May 2018 was the last time he turned out for the Gers, in a ludicrous final day 5-5 draw against Hibernian.

He was relegated whilst on loan at Scunthorpe United last season, but things are going decidedly better with the Tangerines.

“It’s been really good because I’ve played every minute in the league, which was my aim,” Alnwick told the Blackpool Gazette. “I want to keep the number one jersey for as long as possible and help this team as much as I can.”

“There have been games where I’ve had virtually nothing to do, which are the best games, but in some, I’ve been really busy.

“But as a squad, we’re getting there and with a couple of lads back fit we will hopefully kick on.”

Verdict

It’s good to see that while the likes of Ross McCrorie have been struggling for game time in the EFL, other Gers loanees are featuring week in, week out.

Alnwick has shown decent form between the sticks, keeping clean sheets in five of his fifteen appearances, including one against Burton last time out [Soccerbase].

Right now, Blackpool sit ninth League One, locked on points with Doncaster, Sunderland and Bristol Rovers, within touching distance of the playoff spots.

It’s a little early to be looking at promotion yet, but after his nightmare campaign with the Iron last time around, at least the Gers loanee finds himself in the right half of the table.

Alnwick is out of contract at Ibrox in the summer [Transfermarkt] and looks likely to be one of several keepers leaving the club.
