Rangers loanee Ben Williamson has admitted he needs to ‘stop being as rash’ after picking up a costly red card for Livingston [RangersTV].

20-year-old Williamson is an excellent prospect and he thrived on his first loan stint away from Ibrox last season at Arbroath.

He found his feet quickly in the Championship after joining midway through the season and went on to land the Young Player of the Year award for the Gayfield Park side.

The talented midfielder has found things much tougher at Livi, though, since joining on a season-long loan in July.

It’s been a stop-start campaign for him so far, with injury playing a part early on in the campaign and then a regrettable tackle against Dundee United in October landing him in hot water.

Williamson was sent off in stoppage time at the end of the first half for going over the top of the ball and catching Declan Glass on the shin.

Livi escaped with a draw despite playing the second half with ten men but the dismissal has proved costly for the Scotland U21 international, who had to serve a suspension and is yet to get back into the team.

He says he’s enjoying the challenge at the Tony Macaroni Arena but has identified discipline as an area in which he needs to improve.

“It’s good getting experience of first-team football in the Premiership,” he told RangersTV. “It’s hard to get to grips with but I think I’m starting to find my feet a wee bit. It’s kind of stop-start but hopefully, I can get back in the team soon and prove myself.”

“It’s coming and I’m starting to improve myself a bit more so hopefully I can just keep doing that. I need to stop being as rash sometimes but other than that I’m getting to grips with it all.”

It’s no doubt been frustrating for Williamson in recent times to be training but not getting the opportunity to play.

Since his red card in late October, he’s missed out on seven Premiership fixtures.

He had to serve a suspension and can’t play against his parent club, so he’s only actually been overlooked for a few matches, and he made the bench against Hearts at the beginning of the month.

It’s likely that David Martindale will reintroduce him soon, with a view to him featuring more regularly during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Rangers have received a boost after the authorities provided an important update.
