Saturday afternoon will have brought mixed emotions for Jamie Barjonas.

The 20-year-old midfielder is coming towards the end of a loan stint with Raith Rovers.

It’s been altogether more successful than the first half of his season away at Bury.

He hardly played for the EFL League Two outfit but has featured regularly in the Scottish third tier.

Things looked to be going smoothly when after 34 minutes of a home fixture against Stranraer, he scored his second senior goal.

Picking the ball up on the left side of the area, he slotted a finish into the bottom right corner.

However, things were to eventually unravel for the hosts. Stranraer got things back on level terms with two goals in quick succession before the break.

The real killer blow was still yet to come, though.

The visitor’s striker, Joao Pereira Vitoria, headed home in the second minute of stoppage time to snatch all three points.

It wasn’t just a run of the mill fixture, either. Had Raith won and Arbroath lost, winning the league would still have been a mathematical possibility.

As it turned out, their rivals drew 1-1 at Brechin City, crowning them champions.

However, promotion is still possible. Barjonas and his adopted side look nailed on for a spot in the two-legged Championship play-offs which will follow the conclusion of the league season.
