A loan move to the US involving Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas has collapsed, according to the Athletic’s lead Rangers journalist.

Jordan Campbell tweeted that a proposed short-term deal taking Barjonas, 22, to Ibrox club partners Orange County in the United Soccer League has collapsed.

The journalist would also reveal that it is now likely that Barjonas will stay at Rangers until the end of the season.

Jamie Barjonas is a product of the Ibrox club’s youth set-up and has made nine appearances in total for Rangers, four coming in the 16/17 season and five in the 17/18 campaign.

But the former Scotland youth international midfielder is yet to make a competitive appearance under Steven Gerrard despite impressing at the Veolia tournament in France in pre-season.

The fact the club are farming Barjonas out on loan suggests that time is running out for the midfielder whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

However if he isn’t getting game time in Glasgow it’s best for all parties if the Leeds-born midfielder moves on to help develop his career.

Rangers have utilised the link with Orange County to send players on loan to the United States before, with Cammy Palmer, Danny Finlayson and Matthew Shiels joining the club on short-team deals last February [OCSC].

Here’s how the Rangers fans reacted to the link-up when it was announced in December 2019.
