Just as Rangers fans didn’t think things could’ve got any worse following the Liverpool humiliation – summer signing Ben Davies becomes the latest defender to pick up an injury.
The Gers were battered 7-1 by the Anfield club as this consistently chicken-hearted team once again collapsed under the watch of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
But whilst the scoreline was pathetic – as was the team’s surrender – the biggest blow from the match could well be the loss of Connor Goldson.
The Ibrox vice-captain went off before half-time – with the score at 1-1 – and after that the Gers suffered a collapse that saw the team and management sit off a vibrant and determined Liverpool.
But whilst the injury to Connor Goldson was bad enough, the Athletic and Jordan Campbell are now reporting that fellow centre-back Ben Davies has a muscle problem.

According to that report, the defender is now being “assessed” after reporting the issue to the Ibrox management the day after the night before.
The suggestion is that the defender felt tightness during the humiliating night at Ibrox but, to his credit, didn’t want to come off the park as Rangers were being strung up like the proverbial lamb to the slaughter.
A £4m summer signing from Liverpool, Ben Davies has struggled for fitness all season long and an injury to the Englishman is just what Rangers need heading into a busy schedule of fixtures.
To make matters worse, Rangers are already without Scotland international centre-back John Souttar until after the World Cup whilst the consistently crocked Filip Helander is set to join him.
The Rangers faithful have rarely seen a consistent run with the big Swede and with his contract ticking down fans are beginning to wonder if they ever will again.
Rangers will likely need to call on teenage centre-back Leon King this weekend at Motherwell, with defensive midfielder James Sands and John Lundstram also options should Ben Davies fail to make it.
Meanwhile, one Champions League upset has surely given Giovanni van Bronckhorst food for thought after comments on the financial disparity between teams.
