Rangers could be set to miss out on goalkeeper Zander Clark, as Aberdeen is set to open talks with the St Johnstone stopper over a pre-contract agreement according to the Daily Record.
Clark, who has been linked with the Ibrox side recently as a possible replacement for fans’ favourite Allan McGregor [DailyRecord], won’t be at the Perth side next season as his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
There was interest from clubs in England, yet it is Aberdeen who is set to begin talks about taking the player to the North East of Scotland.
Rangers set to miss out on Zander Clark
With Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin both out of contract in the summer, it is imperative that Giovanni van Bronckhorst steps up the hunt for a new keeper.
I expect at least one of the players to remain at the club for next season, but competition will be required, and Clark looked like the perfect option for the Dutchman.
He starred for St Johnstone as they won a famous cup double last season, denying Rangers the chance of the Scottish Cup as he saved two penalties as the Saints moved into the semi-finals at the Ibrox side’s expense.
The club has also been linked with Dundee Utd keeper Benjamin Siegrist [DailyMail], who could be our main target now that Clark looks set to join Aberdeen.
The goalkeeping situation is certainly an interesting one, as McGregor approaches 40, it could well be his final season at the Gers.
Whoever comes in next will have a tough act to follow that’s for sure.
