Rangers are said to be closely monitoring the situation involving Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram, according to the Athletic.

The report claims that the 26-year-old midfielder has a contract offer on the table from the Blades but if he doesn’t sign up the club will consider selling the player on given he has a year remaining on his current deal.

Rangers have mentioned as having an interest in the midfielder alongside Premier League sides West Ham and Brighton.

Lundstram is a powerful box-to-box midfielder who would add a physical presence to Rangers’ often meek midfield as well as chipping in with a few goals to boot.

A tenacious midfielder is exactly what Rangers lack and Lundstram would represent a signing of intent from the Ibrox club, should there be any movement on the reported interested.

A product of Everton’s youth academy, Lundstram impressed for Sheffield United last season, scoring five goals and laying on three assists in 26 starts.

The Blades also managed an impressive 9th place finish after earning promotion to the English Premier League only the season before last.

The Sheffield Star have also linked Burnley to the midfielder who has stiff competition in the United midfield with ex-Rangers man John Fleck and £22m January signing Sander Berge.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also admitted his intentions to bulk up the Gers midfield with the former England captain determined to add to the Ibrox “engine room”.
