Rangers linked with loan move for £3.8m rated African international - report

Rangers could return with a loan move for South African international midfielder Bongani Zungu after an earlier deal fell apart due to Amiens’ transfer demands, according to Kickoff.

The South African outlet claims the Gers are still in contact with the midfielder but are still unwilling to meet Amiens’ asking price of £3.8m (€4m) as the club looks to limit the financial damage of relegation from Ligue 1.

The report also claims that Zungu, 27, agreed personal terms on a three-year deal with Rangers which had the option of another year.

But it also acknowledges reports in the UK which claimed the player failed a medical for Rangers amid claims the Ibrox side were never interested in the player.

The Kickoff report also claims that Zungu is attracting interest from La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 as he looks to force a loan move away from Amiens.

It is claimed that Amiens would be more inclined to let him move on loan if he signed a new contract with the club first so as they can guarantee a return on their investment.

The contract of the former Mamelodi Sundowns player expires come the end of this season, but Kickoff believe that a loan move out of Amiens is “likely”.

This report comes after Bongani Zungu engaged with a Rangers fan on Twitter, liking a Tweet suggesting he should move to Ibrox after telling a fan he no longer played for Amiens.

Rangers were first linked to the player in July with South African football journalist Joe Crann claiming the Gers had a £3.8m bid accepted for the player [Scotsman].
