Rangers linked star turns down move to Australian side - report

Rangers-linked free-agent midfielder Jack Wilshere has reportedly turned down a move to the Australian A-League as he eyes up a jaunt abroad.

The 28-year-old midfielder is looking for a new club after being released from his contract at West Ham despite being fit enough to play amid a spate of high-profile injuries.

Eager just to play again, Wilshere opened up to the possibility of testing himself with “something different” earlier in the month when asked about joining a Championship club.

“I wouldn’t say it would be my first choice,” said Wilshere [Super 6 Podcast].

“I’m not against it but I think my first choice is probably to go abroad and try something different.

“But I’m not against it.”

According to the Athletic, Wilshere has turned down a major opportunity with an Australia club with the MLS believed to be an “option” for the out-of-contract midfielder.

Rangers have been heavily discussed with regard Wilshere ever since his release from West Ham but as of yet, there has been nothing definitive in the reports.

The Press Association have previously claimed that the player would be open to a move to Ibrox but with competition high in the Rangers team, Wilshere may not get his wish of first-team football.

Rangers currently have an array of midfield talent vying for three spots at Ibrox with midfielder Bongani Zungu the latest to join the fray at Ibrox.

The midfielder impressed the club’s supporters as he got 45 minutes under his belt in the second half of the 8-0 demolition of Hamilton.
