Rangers linked star suffers domestic heartbreak as contract runs down

Reported Rangers target Niklas Dorsch experienced promotion heartbreak as the midfielder’s Heidenheim side crashed out of the Bundesliga 2 play-offs.

Dorsch’s side drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen across two legs but any promotion hopes were dashed by the fact Bremen scored two away goals.

It has condemned Heidenheim to another year in the German second division and – if Rangers’ reported interest is legitimate – surely makes any prospective Ibrox move more attractive.

A holding midfielder who can contribute assists, 22-year-old Dorsch is considered a talented player and for many this would be a strong signing for Rangers.

InFranken reported in May that the Gers were interested in the player alongside long-term European allies Hamburg, who’re also set for another year in the challenging German second tier.

Rangers have also been linked to Dorsch through TZ via sport.sky.de, who claimed the Ibrox club were in discussions over the former Germany youth international and Bayern Munich prospect.

Dorsch has a year left on his Heidenheim contract and the Germans could be tempted to cash in now or risk losing the player for nothing next season.

Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic were linked with £3.2m move for the player in January 2019 [Scottish Sun] but any fee would be lower as the player’s contract enters its final year.

Dorsch isn’t the only midfielder being linked with a move to Ibrox either.
