Rangers-linked midfielder rejects "club record" contract offer - report

Rangers-linked Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson has reportedly rejected a “club record” contract offer from the Lilywhites as he enters the final six months of his deal.

The Jamaican midfielder, 28, was heavily linked to Rangers in the summer window with the Ibrox club reportedly having a £1.5m bid rejected [Lancashire Live].

Reports had claimed that Preston have offered Johnson and teammates Ben Davies and Ben Pearson “club-record” deals but all three have since turned them down.

According to Football Insider, Preston will now also look to sell all three players this month as they look to cash in before their contracts expire in the summer.

That report claims that all three players were offered deals in the region of £17k-per-week, describing it as a “take-it-or-leave-it” offer.

Johnson has spent the last five-and-a-half seasons at Deepdale but it’s looking increasingly like he could be exit-bound with contract talks appearing to stall.

Despite the situation over Johnson’s contract the midfielder has continued to be involved in the English Championship side this season.

The former Aston Villa midfielder has made 18 appearances this season, scoring four goals and laying on another three.

Preston find themselves in 12th place in the English second tier as manager Alex Neil continues to impress at the helm of the Lancashire side.

With two Rangers midfielders now facing spells on the sidelines, could Rangers step up reported interest Johnson or another midfielder being linked from the Premier League?
