Rangers linked midfielder Lewis Ferguson scored a brace for Aberdeen on Sunday in their 3-0 Premiership win over Ross County.
The Scottish Sun reported in May that the Gers were interested in swooping for the Scotland youth international and the Daily Record claimed that he could cost considerably more than the record £1.75m fee Aberdeen received for Eoin Jess from Coventry City in 1996.
Former Gers players such as Alex Rae have since urged the club to make their move [Scottish Sun] but while Steven Gerrard is still on the hunt for a new midfielder, no bids appear to have been tabled.
Ferguson has played every minute of every Dons domestic and European fixture so far this season and he made a big contribution on Sunday afternoon as they solidified their grip on fourth position in the table.
The 21-year-old was influential in open play at Dingwall and was rewarded for his strong display with two penalties in the second half.
He struck both spot-kicks low and into the left corner, with the second only just eluding County keeper Ross Laidlaw.
The midfielder now has five goals for the season and looks to be staying put in Aberdeen despite reported interest from English Championship club Brentford as well as the Gers [Daily Record].
Given how important Ferguson is to Derek McInnes’ side and the fact that he is under contract until 2024, it would surely take a very sizeable bid to prize him away from Pittodrie with the end of the window looming.
Deadline day is now only a week away but Rangers fans will be hoping the club can pull a final signing out of the bag to provide a boost in the quest to secure major silverware.
