Rangers-linked Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen extends his lead at the top of Eliteserien with victory over Norwegian rivals Molde.

The Norwegian manager, 55, has guided his side to a 3-1 win away at Molde in the country’s top flight as he closes in on a third title in four seasons with the club.

An attacking coach who has the Norwegian side punching above their weight domestically and in Europe, Kjetil Knutsen continues to show why he’s being linked to becoming the new Rangers manager.

With title rivals Viking drawing 1-1 with Odd the day before, Bodo/Glimt and Kjetil Knutsen stepped up to beat Molde and top the Eliteserien by three points.

Now heading into the final six games of the season, Bodo/Glimt are clear favourites to win the Eliteserien with the 3-1 victory away to Molde potentially a crucial weekend in Kjetil Knutsen’s campaign.

Kjetil Knutsen a next Rangers manager candidate?

The result also comes against the backdrop of Kjetil Knutsen being linked with the vacant Rangers manager’s job as the club looks to replace Michael Beale.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Rangers are planning on speaking to both Kjetil Knutsen and AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen before deciding on their next manager.

Nixon has claimed that Kjetil Knutsen would take the Rangers job if offered in claims which back up earlier suggestions that the Norwegian has “expressed an interest” in the role.

The chatter around the talented manager and a potential move to Rangers even had former Celtic boss Ronny Deila warning Knutsen about the expectations in Glasgow.

Routinely linked to several of the top jobs around Europe, Kjetil Knutsen has previously claimed that only a “special” project could convince the coach away from Bodo/Glimt mid-season.

“I have no other plans than to be at Glimt,” Knutsen told De Telegraaf in the Netherlands.

“I have said it many times – and I will say it again – I am having a great time here, period. Right now Bodo are at an incredibly good place for me to be.

“I want to emphasise strongly that it is very difficult for me to drop something in the middle of a season. I would only abandon the team in the middle of a season for a very special challenge.”

Away from the success Kjetil Knutsen has had in the Eliterserien, Rangers fans might remember the coach becoming the only boss in history to put six past a Jose Mourinho team.

It comes with Bodo/Glimt hammering AS Roma 6-1 in the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2021, later going on to defeat Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic in the knockout stages.
