Rangers were linked with a move for Chris Wilder but he is now thought to be nearing a return to former club Sheffield United.
The decision to sack Michael Beale earlier in October sparked a host of rumours about who would be heading to Ibrox.
Kevin Muscat seemed to be a real contender whilst Frank Lampard fell by the wayside.
Philippe Clement ended up landing the job and Rangers fans will be encouraged by his start to life in Glasgow.
One other manager who was linked in the manager hunt was Chris Wilder – and he could be on his way to the Premier League.
Chris Wilder nearing Sheffield United return after Rangers links
Glasgow World reported that Rangers had a real interest in holding talks with Wilder over a move to Ibrox.
It’s unclear whether Rangers did actually hold talks with Wilder but he was at least of interest to the Rangers hierarchy.
Wilder didn’t land himself a move to Ibrox but he may soon be a Premier League manager once again.
The Daily Mail report that Sheffield United are ready to axe boss Paul Heckingbottom if they lose to Arsenal this weekend.
The Blades have claimed just one point so far this season and Heckingbottom now seems to be primed for the axe.
The report claims that Wilder is ‘likely’ to land the job having repaired his relationship with Blades owner Prince Abdullah.
Wilder took Sheffield United into the Premier League back in 2019 and initially impressed in the top flight before losing his job in 2021.
Out of work since leaving Watford at the end of last season, Wilder could now make a stunning Sheffield United return in the coming days.

My view: Rangers will be happy with Philippe Clement over Wilder
Wilder worked miracles at Sheffield United having previously been in charge of Halifax Town, Oxford United and Northampton Town.
Wilder’s recent record has been patchy though, winning 18 and losing 16 in 45 games at Middlesbrough before being sacked in October of last year.
Watford came calling in March, with Wilder only winning three times in 11 games before leaving Vicarage Road.
That doesn’t really smack of being a manager to take Rangers forward, whereas Clement has a proven record of winning league titles in Belgium.
Add in his experience in European football and even in France and Clement seems to be a much better shout for Rangers right now.
