Rangers linked Lennon Miller one of ‘world’s best’ after rejected bid sees record fee consideration

Rangers transfer window hasn’t exactly been the most exciting in that most of the speculation seems to be surrounding players who Phillippe Clement wants to move out rather than sign.

The manager still has a squad that needs a lot of work, even if those who are currently out injured return to full fitness.

Academy talents like Findlay Curtis, Bailey Rice and Zak Lovelace haven’t looked out of place as Rangers turn to more youth players with one of the world’s best having been linked with a move to Ibrox too.

Rangers linked Lennon Miller branded one of world’s best

According to Tam Cowan, speaking on BBC Scotland’s Off the Ball programme, Clement could be landing a top midfield prospect if the reported interest in Lennon Miller ever becomes more than speculation:

“I don’t think for a minute he’s going to remain in Scotland, but then that other wee nugget that came out this week, Kenny (MacIntyre) that, statistically, they’ve got all the data and the sport science and all that, guys on their laptops at every ground,” said Cowan.

“He’s apparently in the top seven in the world of players in his age in that position, when you throw all the stats into the machine.”

How much would Rangers have to pay for Lennon Miller?

Motherwell have already rejected a bid in the region of £2.5m for Miller which puts into perspective how Scottish clubs have moved on in recent years in terms of valuing their best players.

Clubs like Hearts, Aberdeen, Hibernian and Motherwell have all broken their record fees and it would take more than the £3m plus that Celtic paid for David Turnbull for the Steelmen to part ways with Miller.

Given the success of Lewis Ferguson and other Scots in Serie A, Italy seems like an obvious destination for the SPFL’s best, rather than the previous path of joining Rangers or Celtic.

All this does is push players’ price tags up and makes it even harder for Nils Koppen to shop local, even if on this occasion, it would be worth every penny.
