Transfer rumours have been swirling around Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland, all season long.
No wonder, as the 23-year-old striker has been in red hot form throughout.
By mid-December, he had accumulated a remarkable 26 goals in all competitions and was averaging a goal every 83 minutes in the Scottish Championship.

His league stats are still outstanding, having notched 18 in 18 matches.
Yet, amazingly, he isn’t the top goal scorer in the SPFL.
That title currently goes to Blair Henderson of Edinburgh City.
He has 21 goals for the Scottish League Two outfit.
Shankland’s charge for the Tartan Boot has been temporarily halted by injury. Since then, Henderson has taken full advantage.
Given his antics earlier on in the season, a three goal deficit is clearly not insurmountable.
However, the injuries have given an opportunity to others to catch up, too.
Queen of the South’s Stephen Dobbie and Kevin Nisbet of Raith Rovers, now sit alongside him on 18 goals.

He grew up supporting Rangers. Therefore, when they were reported as tracking his progress, naturally, they became much fancied to secure his signature.
For now, transfer speculation appears to have died down.
He could become a person of interest once again, in the summer, though.
His current deal is up at the end of this campaign, so he will be available on a free transfer.
