Rangers linked duo Daniel Johnson and Bright Osayi-Samuel scored for Preston and QPR respectively in the Championship on Tuesday night as the January transfer window looms.

Johnson was heavily linked with a move to Ibrox during the summer window, with the Gers reportedly seeing a £1.5m bid rejected [Lancashire Live], while both Old Firm clubs have been credited with interest in Osayi-Samuel [Scottish Sun].

Both players are out of contract at the end of the season and are therefore free to enter into negotiations regarding pre-contract deals next month.

Johnson’s performances have improved noticeably with the window on the horizon, and he produced his third direct goal contribution in as many matches with an 18th-minute strike against Coventry City.

The 28-year-old opened up his body and dispatched a confident finish into the bottom left corner from around ten yards after being played in by Sean Maguire.

Preston went on to win the game 2-0 and move up to eleventh in the Championship table.

Meanwhile, Osayi-Samuel also found the net in QPR’s 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Teemu Pukki put the hosts in front from the spot in the 75th minute but the Gers-linked winger brought his side level nine minutes later, cooly firing into the top right corner from 12 yards after winning a penalty of his own.

The 22-year-old should have won it at the death for 19th-placed QPR, but remarkably, he spooned over from two yards on the stretch after being picked out by a cross from the right.

Another reported Rangers target, Kenny McLean [Scottish Sun], played the full 90 minutes in midfield for Norwich and was booked.

Rangers may be forced into action in the transfer market because of injuries to key players, with two ruled out of Wednesday’s Premiership fixture against St Mirren.
