John Souttar has spoken out regarding recent transfer speculation as Rangers continue to be linked with the Scotland international, whose Hearts contract is due to expire in the summer [Courier].

Souttar has been in excellent form for Hearts this season. He has featured 20 times and scored three goals in all competitions for the Jambos and is back to his best after years of suffering from serious injuries.

Rangers’ defensive options are currently limited due to injury and with the situation only going to get worse as Leon Balogun and Calvin Bassey are looking increasingly likely to be called up to the Nigeria squad for the African Cup of Nations in January, bringing a new defender in is imperative.

The Scotland international certainly fits the bill and could slot into the Rangers squad easily. He is finally injury-free and realising the potential that had teams swarming over him when he started out at Dundee Utd.

The 25-year-old spoke about how better he is with dealing with speculation now compared to his earlier years and this might not be the news Rangers fans will want to hear.

“Before my injuries, I think it would have affected me more,” Souttar said [Courier].

“Now I don’t take anything for granted. I go into every game completely focussed on the match and what I need to do.

“Everything else gets blanked out because I’m thankful to be on the pitch.

“I’m loving my football just now. To be playing without any worries about injuries is brilliant – it’s the best I’ve felt in my career, physically – and that’s all that matters.”

It is good to see the defender back to his best after a horrible few years and Giovanni van Bronckhorst could do worse than look to move for him when the January transfer window opens.

In other news, Leon Balogun is aiming to be fit to represent Nigeria at the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
