Rangers-linked defender Danilho Doekhi has opened up on the recent interest from the Gers and Serie A heavyweights Napoli as a battle to secure his signature goes on.
The Vitesse club captain has been admired by the Ibrox side for a while and he has recently stated that there is interest from the club [TheScotsman].
“They do follow me, but there are several other clubs,” said Doekhi regarding interest from the Scottish champions and Napoli [Gelderlander].
“A winter transfer is not ideal. You step in somewhere halfway. But if there is an opportunity, I shall not let it pass.
“Of course, I get the stories of Napoli and Rangers, I am flattered.
“Scotland is passion. In Italy, you really learn the profession of defending. It’s both very beautiful.” Said Doekhi.
These comments suggest a January transfer might not occur but signing the defender on a pre-contract agreement so he can join in the summer looks like it is top of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s list.
With Connor Goldson available to leave on a free in the summer and no word on his ongoing contract conundrum, Doekhi would be an excellent signing.
The Dutchman began his career at the revered Ajax academy and moved to Vitesse in 2018. the 23-year-old has risen to become captain of the Eredivisie side.
With Napoli also interested in the defender, Rangers could have a tough battle on their hands. The Serie A club is fighting it out at the top of the league and is aiming to win their first Scudetto since the days of Diego Maradona.
let’s hope Ross Wilson can work some of his magic as Rangers aim to secure Doekhi before the end of the month.
