Rangers-linked £12m winger plays starring role in Premier League victory

Rangers-linked Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy came in for special praise from Magpies fans after playing a starring role in the side’s 2-1 Premier League win over high-flying Everton.

A Callum Wilson double was enough to down Carlo Ancelotti’s side – who saw Dominic Calvert Lewin strike late on – but it was Murphy who gathered a good bit of attention from the Toon Army.

The £12m Newcastle signing from Norwich has seen chances at a premium at St. James’ Park ever since moving in 2017 but the 25-year-old is now relishing a role at right-wingback for Steve Bruce’s side.

WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.

Following loan spells at West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship it looked like Murphy’s number was up at Newcastle in the summer with Rangers linked by the Daily Record.

But with his contract set to expire next summer, Murphy has broken back into the Newcastle side, making six appearances in league and cup this season, scoring twice.

The winger scored for Newcastle United last week to rescue a late point against Wolves at Molineux in the Premier League.

Murphy’s good form also comes after Rangers were once again linked to the player this week.

The Chronicle claimed that Rangers and Steven Gerrard are still interested in the winger but his good form could see him earn a new deal in the English northeast.

That report claimed that Newcastle United are eager to get Murphy tied down on a new contract due to fears he could leave for free come May.

Newcastle United currently occupy 11th in the Premier League and face Southampton in their next match this coming Friday evening.
