Former Rangers captain and club legend Barry Ferguson has backed “special talent” Ryan Kent to steal the show against Celtic in the Betfred Cup Final.
Kent has struggled with injury since rejoining Rangers in the summer following a Young Player of the Year winning loan-spell last season.
But after firing a double against Hamilton, Kent looks to have announced himself on the scene again following a reported £7.5m [Sky Sports] move from Liverpool.
The tricky winger was a constant thorn in Celtic’s side last season and will undoubtedly be someone the Celtic coaching team picks out as a potential danger.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Ferguson thinks that will be the case again in a week and a half’s time.
“He is a special talent, I just like the way he carries the ball,” said Ferguson.
“The things he can do, either on the left flank or the right flank. Once he gets up to speed because of his previous hamstring injury, he will be a top, top player.
“I thought he was the main player for Rangers last season in the Old Firm games. He stepped up to the plate. I have no doubt he will do that at Hampden because for me he is a special talent.
“You don’t start off at Liverpool. And Liverpool weren’t keen on getting rid of him that’s why Rangers had to pay £7 million.
“I have no doubt he’ll put a top performance in. He puts performances like he did on Sunday, I have seen him play better, but it was still a good performance.
“It was that first goal. That’s a special player that scores those sorts of goals and he’ll be hoping he can do that at Hampden.”
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard spoke about Ryan Kent, now 23, after the match with Hamilton and he believes that the tricky winger is only going to get better [Herald] after opening his account for the season.
