Rangers are well stocked for central midfielders this season with Michael Beale looking to move a few on, however, Steven Davis isn’t going to be one of them.
The 38-year old Hall of Fame member is a certified Light Blues legend but his future is uncertain given his current situation.
Speaking to The Belfast Telegraph, the Rangers veteran gave little away with Steven Davis refusing to look beyond the short-term.
Rangers let Steven Davis make up his mind on future
Michael Beale has said that he is going to back the Northern Ireland skipper’s decision whatever he decides to do but the man himself has yet to make a call on his future, with Rangers extending Steven Davis’s contract to allow him to complete his rehabilitation:
“I am continuing with the rehab at the moment and we will see where we are at as that goes on.”
The prospects of Davis returning to play for Rangers are pretty slim other than for an emotional send off and the recognition that he deserves for an incredible career.
At his peak, if Rangers had Steven Davis with Nicolas Raskin and Jose Cifuentes in support it would have been a mouth-watering prospect, or if he had Todd Cantwell alongside him to do his running.
As it is though, by the time Davis completes his rehabilitation he will be 39-years old and miles behind what is needed in terms of fitness and match readiness.
The offer is clearly there on the table though, as Beale hinted, for him to continue his career at Rangers behind the scenes.

Now that is the send off he deserves.
