Rangers legend Ally McCoist has signed off from a stellar World Cup campaign in Qatar – but not before landing one final zinger on Auld Enemy England.
The former Scotland international might never have played on international football’s biggest stage, suffering a heartbreaking Craig Brown knockback in 1998, but McCoist was a major part of the 2022 tournament off the field.

ITV’s coverage has been resoundingly praised due to the presence of McCoist, whose always humourous, regularly insightful and often inspiring commentary has captured the hearts of the nation.
The cheeky former Ibrox striker and manager has also managed to get the Famous Glasgow Rangers into the conversation on more than a few occasions.
But as Super Ally signs off from the tournament in the Middle East, the Rangers legend left proceedings with one final zinger which has had fans up and down the country in stitches.
Ally McCoist plants World Cup hattrick jibe on England
The Rangers legend was discussing Kylian Mbappe’s incredible World Cup hattrick as Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after a pulsating, legendary 3-3 draw AET in Doha.
This was the first World Cup Final hattrick since Geoff Hurst scored one for England in their famous 4-2 victory over West Germany in 1966.
However, it was a treble shrouded in controversy with replays appearing to show that the ball never crossed the line. It’s been the subject of debate ever since.
But far be it from Ally McCoist to settle it at the World Cup as he took to the opportunity – with tongue very much in-cheek – to land one on the Three Lions.
“Mbappe is the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final when every one was over the line!” Said the Rangers legend.
It’s that razor sharp wit that has undoubtedly seen Ally McCoist earn the unofficial golden microphone award in the court of public opinion and let’s hope its not the last time the Rangers legend is lighting up an international tournament.
Meanwhile, an outspoken ex-Celtic star and fellow pundit have been put in their place by Michael Beale.
